1. Homogeneous or compatible-material design
The fewer incompatible materials that need to be separated, the simpler the potential recycling process can become.
This is why some manufacturers are developing turf systems around polyolefin-based or other compatible material architectures.
2. No loose infill
Eliminating loose infill can simplify collection and pre-processing.
This is particularly relevant for football fields and other large sports surfaces, where significant quantities of infill may otherwise need to be removed before the turf itself can be processed.
3. Reduced dependence on permanent adhesive systems
Traditional backing coatings can create another separation challenge.
Where a product is specifically engineered for recycling, manufacturers may explore thermoplastic bonding or other construction methods intended to improve material compatibility.
But buyers should verify the actual construction.
“No glue” and “fully recyclable” should not be treated as interchangeable claims.
